Abstract

ABSTRACT

Central obesity is obesity that resembles an apple, where fat is stored in the waist and abdominal cavity. This study aims to identify factors associated with central obesity among workers at PT. X Semarang City and the factors most related to the incidence of central obesity. This study uses a cross-sectional design on 110 workers in the production unit. Data collected included measurements of height, weight, and waist circumference; 1 x 24-hour recall; and risk behavior factors, including physical activity, smoking status, and nutritional intake (energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrates). Social factors include education level, marital status, and level of knowledge. Factors that cannot be changed include age and gender. The analysis in this study used the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. The results of this study indicate that risk behavior factors, including energy intake, fat intake, and carbohydrate intake, and social factors, including marital status, are significantly related to central obesity. Factors that cannot be changed, such as gender, are also significantly associated with central obesity. The risk behavior factor, namely carbohydrate intake, is most strongly associated with central obesity, with an OR of 11.580 (95% CI: 1.208 – 111.047). Excessive carbohydrate intake can increase the risk of central obesity by 11.58 times compared with adequate carbohydrate intake, after controlling for physical activity, energy intake, protein intake, fat intake, marital status, level of knowledge, age, and gender. It is recommended that workers apply balanced nutritional guidelines in their daily lives.
